This week we are taking a trip down the dark road of the macabre. Edgar Allen Poe was an American author and poet, who was best known for his tales of mystery and ghoulish exploits. In his short life, he wrote a total of 30 books and they have all stood the test of time. The Cask of Amontillado is a short story that Poe published in the November 1846 issue of Goday's Lady's Book. This was a popular magazine published in Philadelphia from 1830 to 1878. The story is set in a nameless Italian city in the 18th century and is about the narrator's deadly revenge on a friend whom he believes has insulted him. What we will hear this week is a dramatic reading by Jake Endres from Librivox. I have added music and sound effects to the recording in an attempt to improve upon it. I hope that you enjoy Edger Allen Poe’s short story, The Cask of Amontillado.
In 1977 The Alan Parson’s Project made an album called Tales of Mystery and Imagination. One of the songs on that album was The Cask of Amontillado. The link to listen to the song is here.
