On this week’s program, we change things up quite a bit. For the
first time in the history of the podcast, we have a full music
program. I call it, “The History of Jazz – Part 1”.
The
fact is the Jazz isn’t really a genre at all. The term “Jazz” has
so many different sub-genres that it will be impossible to cover
them all. So, I plan to introduce and describe as many styles as I
can. Also, I will present them in chronological order starting with
the oldest known Jazz recording to the latest styles out there
today. We will cover Dixieland, Traditional Jazz, Swing, Bebop,
Latin Jazz, Cool Jazz, Funk, Fusion, Smooth Jazz, and Acid Jazz.
Each one of these could be a standalone episode. You might be
asking yourself what does this got to do with stories and
storytelling. Well first, music is just another way to tell a story
and second what we are doing at this festival is to tell the story
of Jazz music.
Copyright laws prohibit me from playing full
versions of many of the songs. I try to use the public domain
whenever possible, but with the newer tunes, it just can’t be done.
To best of my knowledge, all of the full versions of the tunes used
in this broadcast are in the public domain. If you own the rights
to any of the works please let me know and I will remove the song
or chop it down. Later this week I will post a blog as to where you
can listen to full versions the titles used in this program.
Thank You,
Ronald Hood
